Romans new winter quarters
The Chester Romans, one of the oldest in the UK, have set up a new
winter home at Frodsham leisure Centre in Cheshire. After a brief spell
there prior to their 2008 season they have returned for a longer stint this
time. The Romans were one of the first teams to start their 2009 pre-season
training having returned to practice in November a couple of months ahead of
most of their rivals.
The Romans are determined to be a force in 2009 and have taken
their returning veterans along with a young core of rookie talent and moulded
them into a physically fitter and more mentally prepared organisation. The
Romans have all new coaching staff for 2009 and the offense and defense have
really seen the difference already.
Frodsham Leisure centre provides a good sized enclosed floodlit
astro turf pitch for the Romans where both the youth team and senior team
train. The Youth team won the UK’s festival of football competition last year
and their coach, Alan Winters has now stepped up to become head coach of the
Chester Romans, Alan who lives in Frodsham, is enjoying the challenge of his
head coach role and has made positive strides in his appointments of who should
oversee the defense and offense.
The Romans train weekly on Sundays at the Leisure centre’s
Astroturf pitch from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Anyone is welcome to come down to
train, The Youth team is for ages 14-18 and the seniors are aged 18+.
“You’re never too old to play for the seniors we have players ranging from 18
to 54 years old anyone interested is welcome to come and train, just bring your
enthusiasm and sweats and the Romans will provide the equipment, knowledge and
coaching.”
The Romans season begins in May and ends in August, the Romans
welcome new supporters, players and anyone who may wish to get involved in the
club to come down.
