Peterborough Saxons 34 - 14 Norwich Devils

The game got off to a flying start when the Saxons scored on their opening drive in only three plays. Quarterback Ed Helton hit receiver Aaron Gepp for a 39 yard touchdown pass, but Norwich blocked Nick Kay's extra point kick to limit the damage to six points.

The Devils were quick to reply and also took just 3 offensive plays to get into the endzone when quarterback Jonny Steadman connected with receiver Nick Welsh for a 51 yard score. Devils running back James Anderson then ran in the 2 point conversion to take an 8 – 6 lead. Just before the end of the quarter, Peterborough were back in front when Helton took off downfield and ran 45 yards for the score. This time the Saxons went for the 2 point conversion, which was good for a 14 - 8 lead.

Norwich then went 3 and out on their next possession but then stopped the Saxons to start their next drive on the Saxons' 27 yard line. Six plays later they had levelled things up when Joe Konieczny, in for the injured Steadman, found Aaron Wheatley for a 10 yard score. Alex Heaney's extra point kick sailed wide to leave the scores tied at 14.

The Saxons regained the lead on their next possession when Helton threw a 45 yard strike to Derven Alleyne. This time Kay's kick was good to stretch the Saxons lead to

21 - 14. The Peterborough offense was now in full flow, and went further ahead shortly afterwards and it was Helton again doing the damage with a third touchdown pass, this time to Courtney Pope. Again Kay'skick was good, to leave the score at 28 - 14 at the half.

Defenses stiffened up in the second half, which looked like it was going to be scoreless, and it wasn't until the last few seconds of the game when Helton threw his fourth touchdown pass, his second to Gepp. The Saxons conversion, the last play of the game, was stopped short to leave the final score 34 - 14.

The Devils now return home next week when they take on the Cambridge Cats at the Hewitt School, kick off 2.30pm.
