Just days after confirmation that they had been accepted into the British American Football League, the Bedfordshire Blue Raiders got straight into their preparations for the 2008 season with two 'American Football Tryout' sessions at Bedford International Athletics Stadium recently.

There purpose was to give new players an opportunity to try American football in a controlled environment.

Head Coach Chris Wallis said, "The sessions were very successful. We had good numbers on both days, and everybody appeared to enjoy themselves. There was a good mix of lineman and skill position athletes. Every one of them should be able to contribute next season. It was a bonus to see some veteran players, who have been away from the game for a few years, at the sessions. With so many rookies and first year players in the squad their experience is going to be vital next season."

Numbers were boosted by the graduation of ten players from the Blue Raiders youth system. Receiver Greg Stevenson, running back Alex Parkman and quarterback Chris Wilde all proved they were ready to step up and compete at the next level.

Coach Wallis continued, "It's important that these players return in January when our Winter Training Camp opens and we start full practice. But, I want to emphasise, the door is still open to anybody wanting to play American football. You can join the Blue Raiders at any time."
