Gladiators
appoint new youth team Head Coach
Colchester Gladiators are
pleased to announce that the club has appointed Dave Hogarth as the new
Youth Team Head Coach. Hogarth takes over the role from Matt Roberts who
remains in charge of the senior team.
As a veteran player and a former member of the Management Committee, Coach
Hogarth brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the Gladiators.
Hogarth joined the Gladiators in time for the 1986 season as a hard hitting
safety, and has played most of his career in the secondary, with the occasional
foray into the offensive backfield. More recently he played linebacker and last
year converted to guard where he will continue to play in 2009.
Coach Hogarth is already
making his presence felt and is working hard to prepare the youth team for
their first competitive season. The youth team has a solid core of players,
some of whom have been with the team for a couple of years, and with only weeks
to go before their inaugural season, have been practicing hard to install both
offensive and defensive playbooks.
Youth Team training currently takes place on Saturday mornings from 10:00am
to 1:00pm at the Sir Charles Lucas Sports Centre, Hawthorn Avenue, Colchester.
New players and those with experience will be made very welcome.
The Gladiators recently
received an Awards For All grant that enabled the club to purchase a complete
set of playing equipment and uniforms for the youth team. All youth players are
therefore able to join the Club without the need to spend a lot of money on
purchasing the equipment as it is all provided, even the gum shield! The
Gladiators have also started a junior flag team for anyone from age eight to
14.
Youths interested in joining the team should contact secretary Tom Burridge at secretary@colchestergladiators.org.uk,
and further information is available from the Gladiators website at www.colchestergladiators.com.
