Norwich Devils Youth 24 Peterborough Saxons 8
Norwich Devils youth team travelled to Peterborough hoping to close out their
regular season with a win.
Norwich opened the scoring in the first quarter with
a darting touchdown run by Aaron Roberts. James Tovell kicked the conversion to
make the score 8-0 to the Devils. They then gained excellent field position
following a blocked punt by Paul Reilly who had an outstanding day with, in
addition to the blocked punt, had 4 fumble recoveries and several tackles
in the Saxons backfield. Norwich then increased their lead with a touchdown
pass from Sam Webb to Aaron Wheatley. Tovell again kicked the conversion to put
the Devils 16-0 in front. Tovell then intercepted the Saxons quarterback and ran the ball in for a
touchdown that he converted himself to give the Devils a 24-0 half time
lead.
The Saxons threatened in the third quarter after a bad
snap on a punt gave them possession inside the Devils 10 yard line.
The threat was halted by linebacker Nik Evans who intercepted the
Saxons quarterback.
Peterborough eventually
got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter following some tough running, which
they converted to make the final score 24-8.
The win means the Devils win their division with a 6-2 record. However they now
await a league decision on whether they will be allowed into the playoffs,
having had to pull out of a game earlier in the season.
