Gambrill Scoops Coach of the Year Award
Coventry Huskies, Bears and Jets Flag Football Head Coach Andrew Gambrill was given the 2008 Flag Football Coach of the Year award by the British American Football Coaches Association on July 4th at the Association’s annual convention in Loughborough. Andrew was presented with his award by Shawn Watson - University of Nebraska, and Mike Hankwitz - Northwestern University.
In his acceptance speech, Gambrill was keen to acknowledge the work of Pete Evans, the Academy’s founder, citing his tireless work in recruiting a precociously talented pool of youngsters for Gambrill to work with. The play caller also paid tribute to his coaching assistants many of whom are former players who have returned to work with him at the Academy and have also stayed on to play under him in the senior flag team.
Coventry are having a strong 2009 too, as the Cadets and Junior sides have already sealed their places at the finals in Doncaster on September 5th, with the youth side in good position to claim a spot. The senior side have a busy August schedule before knowing if they will be travelling up to Doncaster, but early results have shown them to be a force to be reckoned with.
