Tryouts open for Edinburgh Wolves American football team
The Edinburgh Wolves American football team will hold try-outs for their 2010 squad at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 21 at Meadowbank Stadium.
Prospective players need no experience playing American football to take part in try-outs, however, those who have played for other teams should also attend. As the tryouts will take place indoors, soft footwear is required.
Of the 60 who tried out for the Wolves at last year's session, 20 went on to play a full season. Wolves coach Don Edmonston said there is a place for anyone willing to put in the hard work required, no matter their ability, experience or size. "The try-outs," he said, "will consist of basic game fundamentals, and agility and speed drills to see where new players best fit in".
He stressed that "Rookie Day" isn't just for newcomers, but also "those who have been out of the sport for a while or are looking for another club to move to. All positions this year are up for grabs."
Those who can't make the tryouts are invited to attend the Wolves' Football School, which takes place over three consecutive Sundays starting November 28 at Jack Kane Centre, Edinburgh. These will be outside and while protective equipment will be provided, players will need to bring a gum shield and a pair of studded boots.
The Wolves junior team, for players aged 14 to 16, will also begin training this Sunday at the Jack Kane Centre.
