Milton Keynes City Pathfinders 12-49 Watford Cheetahs

On a hot and humid Sunday the Cheetahs welcomed the Pathfinders from Milton Keynes to Fullerians Rugby Club and with several key players missing it was two rookies playing their first games for the Club that were amongst the stars of the day. Running back Christian Rolando rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown, whilst Tom Chester, playing on the defense, shut down Milton Keynes big wide receiver threat and recorded 1 pass defended and 2 interceptions returned for a total of 69 yards. Also joining in was fellow rookie Dan Fey in only his second full game, rushing for 67 yards and a touchdown, but Man of the Match honours belonged to 7 year veteran Conrad Patrick, whose impressive stats read 2 catches for 41 yards and 2 touchdowns 1 run of 20 yards and a kick off return of 78 yards for his third touchdown.

The Cheetahs defense were first on the field and carried on the good work shown two weeks earlier against Colchester, forcing Milton Keynes to punt after only 3 plays. Watford’s offense took to the field and marched the ball 57 yards culminating in a 1 yard plunge from quarterback Paul Symonds. Milton Keynes second possession mirrored their first and Watford were soon back on the field and 8 plays later Symonds found Patrick on a 29 yard pass for his first touchdown of the day.

The second quarter belonged to Milton Keynes who quickly found the endzone with a 1 yard run. Watfords response to this was quick as Conrad Patrick returned the ensuing kick off 78 yards to score his second of the day. In fact Milton Keynes held Watford to only 9 plays, but they made the most of them when Andy Crowther caught a 21 yard pass from Symonds to take the score at half time to 25-6 in Watfords favour.

The second half began with Milton Keynes taking to the air trying to catch up ,and again limiting Watford to only 6 plays but Watford again managed to score, this time Shane Wilden going over from 3 yards out. The fourth quarter began with Milton Keynes hard work finally paying off with a 2 yard touchdown run, but, Watford’s reply was ruthless and efficient with Dan Fay getting his touchdown on a 23 yard run, Patrick completed his hat trick with a 16 yard catch from Symonds and Christian Rolando capped of his debut with a 25 yard run for his first touchdown for the club.
