Lincolnshire Bombers 0-48
For the second successive week, Shropshire scored on their very first
possession of the game, Andy Plant hauling in a James Horn 48 yard bomb.
Plant added the extra point to take an early
7-0 lead.
After this the Revolution defense
stopped the Bombers on their opening possession, Horn again threw a touchdown
pass on only his second play of the day, this time Chris Howe was on the end of
a 24 yarder.
The point after attempt was
blocked leaving the score at 13-0.
Into the second quarter, the scoring deluge slowed before Revolution
marched the ball 90 yards and Horn, staying on the ground this time, barged one
yard into the endzone for a touchdown.
Plant’s extra point extended the lead to 20-0.
Another Horn touchdown throw ended the half,
this a 19 yard strike to Howe and with Plant catching the two point conversion,
Revolution ended the half 28-0 up.
The scoring frequency slowed in the second half as Shropshire used
their control of the game to give playing time to all squad members.
Firstly Warren Thomas, in for Horn at quarterback,
connected with a wide open Gideon Beddows for a five yard touchdown catch.
Then, showing that they were able to move the
ball on the ground as well as in the air, Shropshire’s offense drove up the
field and running back Glenn Symington was on hand to barrel in for a touchdown
on a three yard run.
A two point
conversion pass fell incomplete and Revolution had an irreversible 40-0 lead.
Commenting on the victory Revolution Head Coach, Andy McAdam said: “It
was a very professional performance by our offense.
They spread the ball round and controlled the
game.
I was particularly pleased that we
were able to give game time to all of the players on our squad.
All took the chance offered to them to
impress, for example rookie cornerback Kevin Slade grabbed an interception on
his very first play of competitive action. It was also pleasing to see the
return of receivers Jack Garnsey and Dave ‘Stretch’ Baron and Safety Darren
Edwards, all coming back after long lay offs.”
Next up for Shropshire is an away trip to Bedfordshire Blue Raiders on
Sunday, 21 June before the team takes a well earned two week break from league
action.
