Revolution announce recruitment campaign

Shropshire Revolution, the ambitious American Football team, have announced details of their ‘rookie’ recruitment campaign in preparation for their assault on the 2010 British American Football League.

During January, Revolution are holding two ‘taster’ sessions at their winter training base, the TCAT Superdome, in Wellington. The sessions, on Sundays’ 10th and 17th January, will be a chance for anybody interested in this fast-paced, exciting sport to come and experience it first-hand.

In addition to the on-field action, Revolution will be holding a ‘social’ afternoon at Minnesota Fats in Oakengates on Sunday, 10 January from 2pm onwards.   The event will be a chance to meet players and coaches and get to know a little more about the team in an informal, relaxed setting.   And to spread the Revolution further, throughout December team members will be donning kit and visiting shopping centres across the county to promote interest in the club and hopefully identify playing stars of the future.

Club spokesman Mike Dalton said: “The sessions in January will be open to anyone and will be a way of allowing those new to the sport to see for themselves what a thrilling game it can be and hopefully have some fun at the same time!   With players on our squad ranging from anything from 10 to 24 stone, all shapes and sizes are welcomed. An athletic background is desirable, but a commitment to personal fitness is essential if you wish to cope with the physical demands of the sport.

“We would be particularly interested in anybody involved in rugby, athletics or weight training.   However, even if people have no experience of competitive sport we’d still like to see them – what’s most important is attitude and willingness to learn.   Everybody is welcome and we can hopefully demonstrate what a friendly atmosphere we have at this club.”

Dalton also pointed out that it isn’t just prospective players who should come along; “The club cannot operate without volunteers and whatever your skills, there are ways to contribute. From filling the water bottles, fundraising, coaching, administration or investment, the list is endless but if you just want to score touchdowns and make bone-crunching tackles, that’s great too.”
