Edinburgh Wolves 13 Clyde Valley Blackhawks 12

Saturday saw the Blackhawks travel to Edinburgh Wolves home ground, Meadowbank Stadium, looking for retribution for the 10 – 6 loss earlier in the season.

Coming off a four week rest period, the Blackhawks looked a little rusty when their opening drive stalled on the 6 yard line forcing them into an unsuccessful field goal attempt.

Both defences refused to allow either offence much room and it took to the end of the first quarter before Clyde Valley broke the deadlock. Following a fumble recovery by Clyde Valley ’s Craig MacMillan, running back Phil McCabe ground out some tough yards before going in from 5 yards out for the Blackhawks’ opening touchdown. The extra point kick sailed wide left but the Blackhawks led 6-0.

The Wolves answered with a score of their own two plays later. Stu Galloway caught the kick off and sprinted 48 yards up field only to be denied the touchdown by Blackhawks’ Graham Boyle who forced him out of bounds at the one yard line.  Paul Elder barrelled over from the one to tie the score at six, but the extra point fell short of the mark.

The Blackhawks’ first possession of the second half saw them add to the score line. After Clyde Valley ’s defence forced the Wolves to punt, Blackhawk Graeme MacMillan took the handoff at the 35 yard line and looked end zone bound until Edinburgh ’s Paul Hudson forced him out at the two yard line. QB David Orr burrowed his way into the endzone for the touchdown and a 12-6 advantage. The extra point failed after the snap was fumbled.

For the second time the Wolves fought straight back and scored on a 15 yard dash from Stu Galloway. Edinburgh ’s Billy Mitchell slotted over the extra point kick to give them a 13-12 edge.

Both defences stepped up and to prevent any further scoring. Clyde Valley would like to thank sponsors James Chapman quality Butchers, Commercial Bar, David Shaw, Brain Road, Eatherries Ltd., F Swords and Son, A J Stores. Everyone at Blackhawks would like to wish Colin MacMillan a speedy recovery from his injury.
