Clyde Valley Blackhawks 40-0 Hull Hornets
Blackhawks travelled to Hull on Sunday
on one of the hottest days of the year looking to improve their win record.
Clyde Valley took the opening kickoff and drove steadily downfield capping it
off with a 4 yard rushing touchdown for Graeme ‘G Mac’ MacMillan. The extra
point kick hit the post and fell short. Blackhawks defense continued to pile on
the pressure pinning Hull deep in their own half. An error on the snap saw the
ball sail over the head of the quarterback and Clyde valley’s Graeme ‘Special’
McMillan pounced in the loose ball in the endzone to add another 6. Hornets’
special team broke up the extra point. Hornets must have felt lady luck had
deserted them on their next two possessions when firstly Blackhawks’ Greg
McIntyre forced and recovered a fumble then ‘Special’ and Tam Chapman sacked
the quarterback. The home crowd were lifted when Adedamola Osobe recovered a
loose Clyde Valley ball but they were unable to take advantage of the error. G
Mac returned the ensuing punt to give CVB a short field however an interception
by Hull’s Gareth Hughes stopped what looked like a sure touchdown. Hull’s defense
then stepped up a gear holding Blackhawks to a field goal attempt which fell
short of the mark.
The second half saw more of the same
for Clyde Valley David Orr burst through the line and scampered 35 yards to add
to Blackhawks tally only for it to be chalked off for a holding penalty. The
score was only delayed a short time when two plays later G Mac bounced to the
outside and sprinted 40 yards for the score. Tam Chapman coolly slotted over
the kick. Hornets’ tried to mount a drive of their own behind some twisting and
turning running of Kurt Jean Pierre but the power of Blackhawks’ defense put
the brakes on. Blackhawks’ Michael Fysh rounded out the third quarter adding
another Clyde Valley touchdown with a 6 yard burst to the endzone.
Pressure by Hull’s special team forced the kick low. G Mac made his
hat-trick on a 14 yard run and once more the extra point was missed. With time
running out Hornets keep fighting and were unlucky on their next drive when a
run by Kurt Jean Pierre gave them good field position only for it to be called
back. Clyde Valley’s Tam Chapman chased the quarterback into the endzone
and forced him to give up the safety. Power running by Darren Sharp kept Clyde’s
next drive alive and quarterback David R. Orr connected with Gary Orr on a 35
yard pass for the final touchdown of the afternoon. Tam Chapman converted the
kick to end the scoring.
Clyde Valley would like to thank their
sponsors James Chapman Quality Butchers, Hamilton Bakers, Devine Meats –
wholesale meat, Cadzow Tyres, MGM Timber, all the travelling supporters and
Hull Hornets for their hospitality.
