Super Bowl Party (Silver Jubilee Edition)

The Dundee Hurricanes are pleased to announce that their annual Super Bowl Party will be presented in partnership with the University of Dundee. The party will take place on 7 February 2010 at the Air Bar located within the University’s Student Union. The event will celebrate 25 years of American Football in Dundee.

Dundee Hurricanes general manager Charlie Campbell explained, “American Football kicked off in Dundee back in 1985 when a few hardy souls got together to form a team. The club named itself the Dundee Whalers, after the whaling industry which was once a major business sector in the city. The Whalers played their first fully kitted game a few years later and went onto enjoy a lot of success.”

Fast forwarding to the present Charlie added, “Today we have the Dundee Hurricanes, who were formed a couple of years after the demise of the Whalers. The ‘Canes evolved out of the Dundee Storm youth American Football team and have enjoyed a significant amount of success since entering the British Senior League back in 2003. This year’s party is essentially a celebration of 25 years of gridiron in the City of Discovery.

The evening’s events kick-off at 7.30pm, with a sports quiz to be held at 9pm. Thereafter it will be Super Bowl XLIV when the New Orleans Saints square off against the Indianapolis Colts in what promises to be an offensive thriller when gunslingers Drew Brees and Peyton Manning go head to head.

Charlie noted, “To help celebrate 25 years of American Football in the city admission to the event will be free. Essentially we are hoping to repay all those who have supported the sport in Dundee over all these years. The University of Dundee has been a great partner for Super Bowl parties in recent years and I believe most fans who have attended these events have had a great time. The Air Bar has a number of television screens therefore everybody should enjoy a great view of the match-up. In addition it’s a sizeable facility so we expect to have potentially the largest Super Bowl party in Scotland and possibly one of the biggest in the UK.”
