Pirates Announce American Football tryouts
Scotland’s number one American Football Team, the East Kilbride Pirates, are getting preparations underway for their 2010 season and will be holding two open tryout sessions during November.
The sessions are designed to recruit new players for the team from across Central Scotland, and will take place from 1-3pm on Sunday 22nd and Sunday 29th November at Duncanrig Secondary School, East Kilbride.
Pirates’ Chairman Matthew Davies says:
“We’re looking for people who want to learn and have a passion for teamwork - whether they’ve played before or just want to try out a new sport. Because an American Football team needs players of all shapes and sizes on the field, everyone’s welcome to come along. We’re also proud to announce the formation of new Junior and Youth teams for 2010, so for the first time 14-18 year olds are welcome to come along and try out too.”
During the tryouts, the Pirates’ coaching team will give potential new recruits an overview of the game, explain how American Football works in the UK and offer an opportunity to learn about the different positions that make up the team. This will be followed by some physical trials and a chance to give the various positions a try.
Head Coach Andy Mackintosh adds: “We have a great atmosphere at the club, and love to build and grow our team. We have coaches capable of teaching everything from the very basics, right up to refining the skills of some of the best players in the UK.”
