Devils await Cobras

The Norwich Devils start their 2009 league campaign this Sunday with a home game against the London Cobras. The Cobras, who start the season as favourites to win the division, will provide a tough test for the Devils.

The Devils have retained their status in BAFL 1 of the British American Football League despite managing only one win and a tie in their ten game regular season last year, but hope to improve on that in the coming season. However, they have again had to do a lot of rebuilding during the close season with quite a number of experienced players not back for 2009.

Head Coach Nick Rockell starts his fourth year with the team, third as head coach and is cautiously optimistic about the season's prospects. "Pre-season preparation hasn't quite been what we expected but we have a lot of potential on this team which gives us a positive feeling going into the season." said Rockell. "After last season we're prepared for things that don't go our way. We went unbeaten the year before last, but seasons like that are rare and we're at a higher level of football than we were then, so whilst our goals and achievements may be different they are no less important. We're better prepared this season to deal with negatives and come back stronger. We are a young and largely inexperienced team again so it's going to be an interesting year of development."

The Devils will again be playing all their home games at the Hewitt School in Norwich, and the match kicks off at 2.30pm.
