Arrows aiming in a new direction

It is all change at the 2008 BAFL 1 Britbowl XXII runners up, the Redditch Arrows, with the departure of Chairman and long time stalwart - Chris Halford.  The Redditch Arrows have a rich and successful history spanning back over 20 years, and Chris has been the one constant throughout that time. Following last year's success he is taking a well earned rest to spent time with his wife Pamela and family. From all of those past and present at the Arrows we would like to wish Chris a pleasant retirement, and I am sure there are many people within the British American Football League who will also want to express their appreciation.

In addition to Chris's departure the Arrows wish to announce the resignation of Vice Chairman Karl Dodd. At the beginning of the year Karl informed the committee of his desire to take a backwards step so that he could pursue his new passion in sailing. That time has come, so we wish him all the best in his chosen hobby, perhaps the Admirals should get in touch.

Following these departures, Toby Rhodes has taken on the role of Interim Chairman. He will be supported by existing committee member Ed Waddington, Director of Football Ian Hill and Youth Chairman Stuart Potts-Perkins. In addition, Jonathon Carter has agreed to assist with the Secretary duties, whilst the club looks to reassess the roles within the organisation.

The Arrows would also like to announce that applications for the position of Head Coach and Offensive Co-ordinator are being sought. This follows the resignation of Head Coach Mark Williams after the opening day defeat at Oxford. The announcement has been delayed as the committee firstly considered the potential of candidates from within the club. Although not mandatory we are seeking applications from coaches who have a proven man management record, have been a coach with a sports team in the past, the ability to plan training sessions and manage and mentor assistant coaches. You will possess at a minimum level 1 BAFCA qualification, and will be seeking to expand your knowledge. In addition we may require a CRB check to be conducted.

Interested parties are invited to submit a brief resume, details of their goals and the position they are interested in to Toby Rhodes, via email or post, by 14th July.   toby@redditcharrows.com

The Arrows are approaching their 25th anniversary therefore it is important that the correct decision is made regarding the leadership of the players and coaches. We are keen to appoint someone who will build upon the successes of our recent years, and who will bring new and fresh ideas to the organisation working with our remaining level 1 / 2 coaches.   The successful candidate will be joining an organisation with excellent opportunities:

.    We play on the main pitch at Kings Norton Rugby Club, which is situated directly in front of the club house and a 300 seated stand.

·   2009 saw the start of Redditch Arrows Youth team who are competing in this year’s championship, so this will provide a number of players each year to the senior squad.

·    We have a core of 35 players on the current roster.

·    There are 10 qualified coaches and a dedicated physio within the organisation.

·    We have strong links with the local media: newspapers, internet, radio and occasionally TV.
