Wildcats 0-39 Edinburgh Wolves
Edinburgh Wolves, the capital's American football side, notched up an
impressive victory at Meadowbank stadium on Sunday, with a 39-0 win over
newcomers Highland Wildcats.
Wolves
Coach Don Edmonston, who was given a surprise victory shower by a few cheeky
Wolves with a bucket of water, said the Edinburgh side had put in a
good performance."We had an almost full-strength squad today and it really
showed on the field, it was something that caused problems for us in
Manchester. It was a great day for our younger players, as we gave our rookies
a lot of game time, which will help build experience. We have a very promising
bunch of new recruits.” Edmonston was quick to praise the feisty Wildcats whose passing game caused
problems for the Wolves in the first half. "They have a lot of
heart," he said. "A lot of people underestimate them because they're
a new team but that would be a mistake. They will surprise someone this
year."
Wolves will
be aiming to continue their good form against the Clyde Valley Blackhawks on
May 24, and their next home game sees Hull Hornets visit Meadowbank on June 13.
Meanwhile the future generation of gridiron heroes got off to a fantastic start
when the Forth Valley Fusion won their first ever home game against Sheffield
Tomahawks 20-14. Edmonston also wore the coach's cap for the Fusion game, which
was played at Meadowbank earlier in the day.
