Warriors on the move.
The South
Wales Warriors have found new home in the heart of the South Wales valleys. With immediate effect, the Warriors will be playing their 2009 BAFL 1 home games at Llanharan Rugby Club, near Pontyclun, South Wales.
Club
Chairman, Geraint Roberts who is himself a local resident, is
excited about the prospects this move offers the Warriors, the Rugby Club and the local community. 'It's exciting to have the team back in the heart of Wales again', said Roberts. 'Llanharan RFC is a great club, with a long tradition of sporting excellence and community involvement. The facilities are top-notch, and the grounds themselves offer something we missed last season.' Roberts went on to say, 'We're hoping that this season is the start
of a long and mutually beneficial relationship between the Warriors and the Dairymen. They're very excited about having us come to Llanharan, and the year-long interest it will bring to events at the club.'
This is the third move in as many seasons for the Warriors. When asked why the Warriors had moved again, after having such a good season at their previous location, Roberts replied, 'Make no mistake, Sully was a great venue. But we, as a committee, thought that we could do better, and perhaps should do better in terms of a stand, floodlights, a PA system, etc., as we move up the divisions and into the league's spotlight. We feel that Llanharan not only has the right attitude, but the right facilities to help move the Warriors into top-flight football.'
The Warriors prepare for their 2009 season with a controlled
scrimmage away to the BAFL Premier side Bristol Aztecs, before facing their old rivals the Oxford Saints in the season opener on the 26th of April at Llanharan RFC. Kick-off on the 26th is at 2.30pm, with refreshments available before, during and after the game.
