Warriors celebrate winning season and honour legend
The South Wales Warriors recently celebrated their
2009 season in style at the Old Orleans bar in Cardiff city centre. The
presentation evening recognised the efforts put into the season by all the
players and coaches and in particular the following awards were made:
Offensive Rookie: Sam O’Neil
Defensive Rookie: Dai Price
Most Improved: Jonathan Price
Lineman of the Year: Jonathan Price
Defensive MVP: Jonathan Bateman
Offensive MVP: Martin Tranter
Overall MVP: Tom Kiley
Coaches’ Player: Craig Wilkinson
Players’ Player: Martin Tranter
A special honour was also paid to Tim ‘Seppo’ Macy, who had his two numbers (12
and 53) retired from the club, for services as player, coach and chairman over
the last 12 seasons. In making the decision to retire both numbers, Warriors’
club chairman Geraint Roberts said “Without Tim’s commitment over the last 12
seasons, there would be no football in South Wales – all present and future players
can thank Tim that there is a strong football presence in South Wales”.
The Warriors are currently making preparations for
their 2009 season and will be holding a Rookie Day at Roath Park Recreation
Ground in Cardiff on the 8th February 2009. Anyone interest in
playing, coaching or helping out in an administrative capacity should contact
