Last time out the Tigers suffered their first defeat of
the season in a close encounter with the Manchester Titans losing 22-20.
The Nighthawks started their season back on
the 4th May losing to Edinburgh Wolves but were in action last
weekend beating the Chester Romans in an impressive 25-0 victory.
The two teams appear evenly match posting
similar shutout victories over the Romans.
“We know that we will be in for a tough game this weekend having matched up against good Merseyside in previous seasons. We have identified their key playmakers and will hopefully neutralise them come Sunday,” said Tigers defensive coach Jamie McCansh. “The whole defensive unit were disappointed in conceded points last week so we will be striving to restore our reputation and post a third shutout of the season”
On offense, the Tigers have been moving the ball well
using a variety of running backs and receiving targets in the first three
games. Tiger’s offensive coach Graeme Clee said, “We were a little slow
starting against Manchester last time out, but I’m confident we can hit the
ground running and the first score of the game will be very important. If we
play to our strengths and cut out silly penalties then we can match the
Nighthawks.”
The teams met last season in Glasgow with the Nighthawks
coming back from a 12 point deficit to win 16-12.
Tigers Head Coach Derek Taylor said “We are confident that we
will not have a repeat of last season’s game by throwing away a lead.
In our first two games of the season we took
the lead and managed to hold our opponents at bay recording two shutouts.
We showed great resolve and determination
last week against Manchester to come back from 14-0 down to level the scores
before half time.
We are not taking
Merseyside lightly and know they are good footballing side.”
