Glasgow Tigers 29 at Highland Wildcats 14

With quarterback Matt McCusker back at the helm, passing for two touchdowns and running in another, the Glasgow Tigers clinched the Scottish Conference and assured themselves of playoff action for the first time in five years.

The first quarter saw the Tigers dominate the game with good field position but the spirited Wildcats’ defence prevented any scoring.

The Wildcats took the lead midway through the second quarter with the Wildcats’ first touchdown of the season from an excellent pass by Highland quarterback James Pyke to tight end James Hudson. A jubilant home side then saw kicker Martin Devlin add the extra point kick.

This woke up the
Glasgow side and led by Matt McCusker, who completed 12 of 26 pass attempts for 216 yards, they moved up the field and McCusker himself ran the ball in from three yards out. The Wildcats blocked the Tigers kick and still
led 7 -6.

After a couple of sacks by Luke Summers and Paul Polson for the Tigers on the Wildcat quarterback, the Tigers once again had the ball and a nicely thrown pass from McCusker found receiver Ryan McCluskey waiting for another score. This time kicker Derek Russell added the extra point and the Tigers led 13 - 7 at
halftime.

The Tigers dominated the third quarter and added to their lead with a McCusker touchdown pass to Derek Russell, who added his second kick conversion of the day. Towards the end of the period, Russell added a short field goal and took his personal total to eleven points on the day.

In the fourth quarter Graeme Clee, who amassed 143 yards from 20 carries, added a touchdown from twelve yards out but the Wildcats were not finished and after their defence blocked the Tigers' kick, they recovered a fumble late in the game.

With a short field, Euan Rennie caught another touchdown pass and Martin Devlin tagged on the extra point kick for a final score of 29 - 14 to the Tigers.

Tigers Head Coach Derek Taylor stated, "I'm pleased to be 7-2 and for our younger players who have worked hard this season to be rewarded with the conference and playoff action this season."

The Tigers complete their regular season games on Sunday August 9th versus the Hull Hornets at Lochinch at
4pm .
