Thundercats are coming to Sussex

Sussex Thunder are pleased to announce they will play host to the Duo Sports Thundercats, a team of US Semi-Pro’s. The team will visit the UK next month to face the Thunder on Sunday the 19th July in Crawley.

The Thundercats are based in Chula Vista, California, just south of San Diego and are a touring all-star team consisting of players from all levels of football. They undertake tours to all parts of the world, sending teams to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan as well as across America. The team is led by founder and quarterback Justin MacKenzie who spent time at the Coventry Jets a couple of seasons ago. Justin originally set up Duo Sports as a personal training and football coaching enterprise, this has now grown into a fully fledged football academy and events management company.

Thunder Chairman Tony Miller said, “Justin first contacted us at the start of the year and suggested the idea of arranging this game. At first we thought playing a team of this quality in middle of our first BAFL Premier season might be a bit much, but after some thought we decided that is was too good an opportunity to miss. It’s a chance to give our players the experience of playing some top quality football players, there will be guys on their squad who have played Division 1 College and Arena League football. It’s not a chance that many of our players will get that often”.

The Thundercats will fly into the UK a week before the game and will stay and practice in Brighton. The two teams will also hold a couple of joint training sessions during the week. With the game being held during a break in the season due to the International tournament involving the Great Britain Lions, the Thunder are hoping to attract a decent attendance at the game as there are only a couple of BAFL games being held that day. It is hoped to make it a good enjoyable day for all, with other entertainment being planned as well. After talks with BAFL supremo Ken Walters, the Thunder are delighted to announce that they are able to offer up to about ten places on their squad for the day to players from other teams around the BAFL. If you would like to join up with the Thunder for this one-off game please contact Tony Miller on bigtonym94@aol.com with your details. Players would have to attend two practice sessions with the team before the game and you will have to get written permission from your Head Coach before you would be accepted onto our roster. Any players or coaches that have any questions about joining us please do not hesitate to contact Tony on the above e-mail address.
