Thunder Announce 2009 Coaching Line-up.

Sussex Thunder, the 2008 BAFL 1 Champions have announced five new additions to their coaching squad for their first season at the top level of American football in the UK.  Joining Head Coach Len Scott’s team for the new campaign are:

Gus Romain: Running Backs
He was a bruising north-south rusher in his playing days for both the Crawley Raiders and the Sussex Thunder. He also had a spell as the Thunder Head Coach in the late nineties. He will also add to the teams medical staff as he is a fully qualified paramedic.

Dave Clarke: Offensive Line
Another ex-Raider returns to take the reigns of the hogs. Coach Clarke was renowned for producing strong well drilled units in his time with the Raiders.

Pete Vaughn: Special Teams Co-ordinator
Pete brings a great deal of experience to the Thunder by way of the Farnham Knights, where he worked under Britball veteran Head Coach Steve Raines, occupying various coaching positions. Pete was also Head Coach of the Surrey Stingers university team, he will also look after the receivers.

Kes Longhurst: Defensive Line
Long time Thunder stalwart Kes joins the coaching staff after a 14 year career in the trenches. Due to a double fracture of his tibia and fibula last year, Kes has decided to end his playing days and become a coach.  One of the most popular and respected players to ever play for the team, his experience & knowledge will be a great asset.

Andre Clarke: Linebackers
Last years leading tackler takes on the role of player/coach.

The new additions join the existing coaching team of

Len Scott – Head Coach
George Korischar – Defensive Co-ordinator
Tony Stitt – Defensive Backs
James Wright – Strength and Conditioning

Coach Scott said, “I’m delighted to announce the arrival of the new coaches. They bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to the club. We, as a club have worked hard over the winter identifying the coaches and players we would like to bring to the club. We wanted the coaching staff in place first, that’s done, we can now place our attention on recruiting the players for the positions that we need to strengthen for the coming season”.
The club still has a vacancy for an Offensive Co-ordinator, if you feel you have the necessary skills to take on this position please forward all enquiries to Tony Miller on chairman@sussex-thunder.co.uk
