Thrashers
open the door to a new generation
The
Hampshire Thrashers will be holding an Open Day on the 7th
December
for anyone interested in American football. As well as looking to bolster their
senior team which has been knocking on the door of the playoffs for the last 2
years the Thrashers are now setting up a Youth kitted team.
After
last years rain soaked days where keeping your footing was the skill most
required the Thrashers are please to announce that this year’s event will be
held at the Henry Beaufort School in Winchester. Local electronic manufacturing
company Accorde Esprit will be sponsoring the event enabling use of indoor
sports halls as well as hard court surfaces and grass pitches.
Last
season the Thrashers added many new faces directly from the Open Days who went
on to make quite a splash in the 2008 season. Amongst their number was Nick
Fray who topped 1,200 yards rushing with 14 touchdowns, Nic Jones and Lewis
Sellen, linebackers who both topped 15 tackles in at least 1 game and a number
of contributors on both sides of the ball.
The
Thrashers Open Day starts at 9am for 16-17 year olds followed by 18+ from 9:30
onwards. This will be a great opportunity to learn some of the basics of the
game and also test some of your speed and agility skills against other local
talent.
No
experience is required as qualified coaches will be assisting on the day and
all equipment will be supplied. Just bring trainers for indoor use, studded
boots for the grass pitches a water bottle and a gum shield.
