New era for the Tomahawks
The Sheffield Tomahawks began their preparations
for 2009 season last Sunday at a new venue with a completely new coaching
staff. Paul Leger founder and former Head Coach of the Tomahawks moved to
Arizona last month with his wife Dorothy and this left a huge gap to fill for
the Tomahawks. A new committee was formed and their first duty was to
appoint Tony Potts, former Assistant Head Coach, to the role of Head Coach for
the club. The club has teams at all levels of Junior football including
Cadet Flag, Junior Flag, Junior Kitted and Youth Kitted. In all more than
60 young people aged between 8 and 18 are registered to play with the club next
season.
Tony's first task was to boost the coaching
staff. His first signing was that of Andy Patel, former Head Coach of the
South Yorkshire Mustangs. "Andy and I have worked together as
players and coaches over the last 20 years and it's great that we are both
involved with the grass roots level of the sport. As an independent club
we pride ourselves on encouraging young people to come into the sport and are
looking forward to watching them continue to play football at senior
level".
The Tomahawks have a new training facility at
All Saints Sports College in Sheffield which is only a short distance from
where the club was originally founded.
The next training session is on Sunday 7th December
beginning at 12.00 noon and everyone is welcome. All equipment is
provided. Anyone looking for further information can contact the Head Coach
