The Staffordshire Surge junior kitted team played their first ever game at the NLFE Kick Off tournament at Burleigh Community College in Loughborogh last week.

The new team made their debut against the London Warriors, the honour of scoring the first ever points for the Surge juniors fell to Ben Litherland, tacking the Warriors running back in the end zone for a safety. With the running of Sam Parkinson and Richard Heath the Surge offense worked their way to within 5 yards of the Warriors end zone where quarterback Sam Davies scored with a touchdown pass to Matt King.  Cornerback Adam Henderson stopped one London drive with an interception but the experience of the Warriors told in the second half and they finished 28-8 winners.

When asked to comment Coach Lowe stated,  "The day was never about scores but, playing football and gaining experience. Seeing this group of people bond under the intense pressure of playing against the best the country has, was truly incredible. Enough to say they should all feel immensely proud of themselves."

The club has been able to equip the players with grants from the Stoke on Trent Community Chest, Sports Relief and the Royal Mail Sports Foundation. The team is currently looking for new players and volunteers to join for this season.
