Sharks add new teeth to squad
Posted in: Cornish Sharks, BAFL 2    By Sharon Walker Apr 19, 2008 - 10:56:47 AM

The Cornish Sharks have added to their already extensive squad with two new top signings from the USA.   Michael Johnson and Caz Hill will be playing for the Sharks this season as well as offering their extensive experience to help with training and developing the team.   These players were scouted by Coach Smallworth during one of his coaching trips to the States and he is delighted they have decided to come to the UK to play for the Sharks.

Michael and Caz are both from Los Angeles, California and play for the California Smash (semi-pro).   Michael attended the Minnesota Vikings (NFL) camp and had try outs for that team, making the last 10.   He is very quick at strong safety and wide receiver.   He was voted “All American Defensive Player of the Year” for the Smash in 2007 with 129 tackles, 9 sacks and 4 interceptions.   He will make an awesome addition to the team.

Caz Hill came out of Texas College and is a very good running back / line backer.   Last year for the Smash he had 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns to set a club record.   He is a “big, bruising back” with good open field speed and good hands.   He adds significant potency to our offence.

Coach Smallworth says “These two players are the icing on the cake for the Sharks.   We looked at areas on which we could improve from last year and have upgraded all positions.   The players and coaches are very excited at the prospect of two such talented players joining our ranks, as they understand that they can learn a lot from them.   Having spoken to the players I am pleased that they have been following our progress since I first met them and are keen to come to the UK.   They understand that the Sharks have a development programme for its younger talent and will be coaching the youngsters of the Academy as well as our more experienced players.”
