The Saxons may have had their most successful year ever, winning eight of their 10 regular season games, but the Marshall Dodge sponsored Peterborough Saxons aren’t finished yet.

With victory in the ‘Tri Base Bowl’ this past weekend, the Saxons secured their play off place, and guaranteed home field advantage in the first round, scheduled for this Sunday 24th August where they’ll welcome the visiting Cornish Sharks as the two teams meet for the very first time. To promote the fixture, the Saxons, in conjunction with Peterborough City Council will be touring the cities libraries as part of the National Year of Reading, reading to young people and their parents as part of an initiative to encourage ‘lads n’ dads’ to read together.  The youngsters will have the opportunity to meet the players, ask questions and even try on some equipment, with one lucky youngster winning the chance to lead the team out ahead of their crunch clash with the Sharks the following day.

You can catch the gridiron stars at the following locations:

Central Library: 10:00am -11:00am

Dogsthorpe Library: 11:30 - 12:30

Hampton Library: 1:00pm and 2:00pm

Meanwhile, those in the market for a new vehicle can also find the Saxons raising funds for their upcoming play off campaign with players washing cars for donations over at the Marshall Dealerships in Boongate. The fundraiser, supported by the staff at Marshall Chrysler Jeep and Dodge will help to put a dent in the costs associated with an additional four games for the boys in blue, which General Manager Mark Kerr explains are the most important in the club’s history.

“Last year, we were eliminated from the play offs in the first round.  This year, we must go further.  We are just three games away from competing for our first ever National Championship, however, in an amateur sport such as ours, finances are always tight and those additional games come at a cost. If you’re in the area this weekend, why not pass by and meet the guys. We aren’t looking for handouts, but all donations are greatly appreciated, we want to put this city on the map and the Peterborough public can help us make that happen”.

If you haven’t seen the Saxons in action yet this season, you can catch all the action this Sunday, 24th August at Stanground College starting from 2:30.
