Saxons set to invade Ipswich
The Peterborough Saxons hit the road this Sunday with a visit to the Ipswich Cardinals in game two of the 2009 British American Football League campaign.
The Saxons got their season off to a dream start last Sunday with a 34 – 14 victory over the Norwich Devils, but the win came at a price, injuries to two score wideout Aaron Gepp and standout US Safety Jonathan Palmer putting a dent in an otherwise positive BAFL 1 debut.
With back to back games throughout the month of May, the Saxons have no choice but to lick their wounds and come out swinging as they face a physical Cardinals side who competed for a National Championship back in 2007.
With a wealth of US talent at his disposal, Head Coach Charles O’Neal won’t be short of options this weekend, and the clubs 30 strong British contingent will have a point to prove as they look for victory in Ipswich, cementing their status as a competitive BAFL 1 outfit.
The offense is bolstered by the return of running back Anthony Amissah who suffered a difficult afternoon against Norwich. The fiery youngster will be looking to prove his worth to the coaching staff with a strong showing this Sunday.
Meanwhile on defense, versatile defender Paul Sunderland is available for selection giving co-ordinator Sean Gray a range of options, which he’ll need to explore to shut down a balanced Ipswich attack.
