Milton Keynes City Pathfinders 0
Peterborough Saxons 80
There were celebrations in Stanground this Sunday as the
Marshall Dodge sponsored Peterborough Saxons opened their home account in style
with an 80 - 0 demolition of the visiting Milton Keynes Pathfinders.
Fans braving the elements were treated to a gridiron clinic
as the Saxons scored on every offensive possession and backed up their reputation
as the meanest defense in the division, shutting out their opponents for the
third consecutive game.
Despite appalling conditions, the Saxons were prolific,
smashing club records with six different scorers contributing to an 11
touchdown haul. The defense were not to be outdone, creating numerous
turnovers and looked set to add a touchdown of their own when linebacker Darren
Griffiths intercepted a Milton Keynes pass on the last play of the first half,
only to be tackled just yards short of the endzone.
General Manager Mark Kerr was delighted with the
performance saying, “This was the most complete team performance ever from a
Saxon side. Every player on the squad contributed with a big play today
and it’s rewarding to see those who have worked so hard this season starting to
reap the rewards”.
“I want to thank our sponsors, and everyone who ignored
the weather to come and cheer us on. Your support is crucial to us over the
next few weeks with some crunch games right around the corner”.
The Saxons are in action again on Sunday 8th
June when they welcome local rivals Cambridge Cats to Stanground College in a
game which looks set to decide the conference champion.
