Watford Cheetahs 8 Peterborough Saxons 45
The Peterborough Saxons continued their winning ways this
past Sunday, scoring freely on their way to a 45–8 victory over the visiting
Watford Cheetahs.
It was a slow start for the Saxons as a host of penalties
on both sides of the ball kept the Cheetahs in contention early on, but as the
first quarter ticked away, the home side began to find their rhythm.
Scores from Ricky Benson, Marius Lodoen, Dale Hawes and
Courtney Pope gave the Saxons a 27–0 lead with Ronnie Foster completing the
first half scoring from a yard out late in the second period.
The Saxons kept their opponents at bay for the majority of
the game. The secondary, strengthened by the return of Alex Dall, Kevin
Cunningham and Chris Ogle controlled the game with the exception of a solitary
scoring drive. Similarly the additions of Primo Dabroswki and Steve
Wooley making their first appearances of the year alongside returning linebacker
Nick Williams helped keep the Watford ground game under wraps.
The highlight of the second half came in the form of
debutant running back Bobby Amissah. Signed recently from the Premier
League Bristol Aztecs, Amissah, a former Great Britain international at
collegiate level took his opening carry 20 yards, tackled just shy of the
endzone. Not to be denied, the 22 year old rusher opened his account late
in the game to cap off a dream debut.
The Saxons enjoy a three week break following four back to
back home games before making the trip to Watford for the rematch. For
