Shropshire Revolution 34 Hull Hornets 6
Revolution travelled to East Yorkshire without their two
standout running backs and were therefore forced to turn to rookie rusher Lee
Foley.
Foley did not disappoint,
amassing 105 yards rushing behind a dominant offensive line and scoring a hat
trick of touchdowns in the process.
Hull kept Shropshire at bay for the entire quarter as both
sides struggled to move the ball, but in the second quarter, Revolution stamped
their authority on the game, with three touchdowns.
The first came after linebacker Simon Lewis retuned the ball deep
into Hornets’ territory following a blocked field goal.
With the excellent field position, Foley
rushed in for his first score.
Veteran
tight end, and recent signing Steve Ward added the next touchdown with a 19 yard
catch and run and it was left to Foley to complete the scoring, with a 25 yard
pass from quarterback Rob Mclean.
Kicker Andy Plant added all three extra points to leave Shropshire 21-0
up at the break.
A change of quarterback at the break did not stop
Shropshire’s momentum as Warren Thomas marched the team 80 yards down the field
on the first series, eating up 10 minutes of the clock in the process and
leading to Lee Foley’s second touchdown, this a one-yard run.
Hull continued to battle throughout the game
and were rewarded at the start of the forth quarter with a five yard touchdown
catch from Gaz Hughes after team mate Rich Brooksby, had galloped almost the
length of the field.
However Shropshire
quickly got back on the scoreboard as kicker Plant turned receiver to grab a
three yard pass from Thomas and finish the scoring at 34-6.
Defensively, Shropshire had a fine day, although Hull’s quarterback,
Martin Pepper was a constant threat with effective scrambling and some fine
throws.
For Revolution, star players
were Lewis with his 56 yard blocked field goal return, five tackles and a sack,
safety Darren Edwards with a 20 yard interception return and linebacker Matt
Woodcock with eight tackles and two and a half sacks.
Commenting on the game, Revolution Head Coach Austin Evans
said: “Despite missing some key players on offense, everyone really stepped up,
particularly Lee Foley who, when given his chance impressed greatly.
I think the play calling by Coach Dave Reid
made a real difference, as we constantly looked capable of scoring. It was a
convincing win and we’re looking forward to carrying that momentum into our
last three games of the season, starting with the visit of Tamworth this
weekend.”
Shropshire host Tamworth for their last home game of the
season on Sunday, 20 July looking to avenge an earlier 19-6 defeat.
