Welcome
to post season newsletter number 3 from the Yorkshire Rams, brought to you by
the Yorkshire Rams Senior and Youth teams and by Collett Transport, our team
sponsor. We are proud to call the John
Charles Centre for Sport our home and we are also proud to represent both the
City of Leeds and the County of Yorkshire in British American Football.
Prospective Players, "When are you training?"
We are getting loads of emails from people wanting to play for the Rams in 2009
and with three age groups catered for and more schools being added to our list
of coaching locations, we are pleased to say that we can accommodate most
people with aspirations to play, coach or manage the team.
14 to 18 year olds are training in the off season with Coach Goodward's
staff and this week they took a trip up to Carnegie's Headingley campus to look
around the site. They will be training
at Roundhay until further
notice. Further details on the Youth and
Junior Training location is at
www.leedsvarsityrams.com
The senior (19+) team will be starting training again on Sundays in mid
January. An exact date will be sent out
as soon as the training location is
signed off. Interested people should email ceo@yorkshirerams.com
St Luke's Cares...... for South Leeds!
The Rams are proud to announce that a partnership has been formed with South Leeds
community group St Lukes Cares. The Rams
will be working with international women's Rugby League star Saima Hussain and
the members of the organisation to form stronger links off the field as well as
on it. The first initiative has been to
form a working group to tackle the challenges of servicing in excess of 110
participants of all ages and raising the funds required to do this. In addition, other off the field topics have
included marketing, advertising, medical issues, video production and stats
support. The group meets at St Lukes Cares, on Beeston Hill, every Wednesday at
4:00pm. At the moment it is an all female group, but anyone is welcome to come
along and join in. More info on the
organisation can be found at
http://www.stlukescares.org.uk/home.html
Rodillian High School American Football
The Rams organisation is also proud to announce the latest High School to come
on board with our community Flag Football programme is Rodillian High School.
Working with Leeds South Partnership
Development Manager, Mr Brychan Jones, and Rodillian head of PE, Mr Wes Bush,
we have started an after school
club
every Friday in the gym at the brand new and highly impressive school.
Initial take up has been very encouraging and so far there has been 100% attendance.
With numbers growing week in and week out, we
have proved that the successful pilot scheme at Morley High School was more
than a flash in the pan.
More coaches
are required for all our age groups and we have recently started working with
three brand new coaches who have been put through their level one by the Rams
and are already contributing to the Youth and Junior programmes.
SHOW ME THE MONEY!
Regular readers of this newsletter will be aware of the amount of work that the
Rams do in local schools and with young people in South Leeds.
In order to continue with this work we
require funding and this is probably the most difficult part of running the
team.
Attached is a letter we will be
sending out to businesses in Leeds and surrounding districts and we ask that
you read it and either help us out or pass it on to as many people and businesses
that you think could help us. Asking for money is never easy and at times like
this the financial climate often dictates that people will only donate to the
most worthy of causes. We at the Rams are fully aware of our responsibility to
the community that has taken us in with open arms, whatever people and
businesses can give us we
guarantee it will be ploughed back into working with the people who need it most,
the next generation of neighbours and colleagues you will be working and living
with.
We appreciate your help.
Christmas coming soon, gift ideas?
The Rams will be taking delivery of a consignment of brand new high quality merchandise
in the coming days.
We are still
deciding how to offer them to you, but it seems EBay is probably the best
Ecommerce option without spending a fortune in setup costs.
As so many of you that receive this newsletter
are in the United States, it is worth noting that we will ship worldwide and I
am sure that you will look very dapper stepping out in downtown Dallas or New
York in your Yorkshire Rams hoody.

Congratulations #1
Former Yorkshire Rams Offensive Lineman of the Year, Simon Dwyer, has had the
ultimate coaching honour bestowed on him by the British Universities league
this week when he was named Head Coach of the Northern Conference MVP team in
their annual game.
We want to wish Coach
Dwyer all the best in what will be his last ever coaching assignment for the
foreseeable future. The current HC at the Sheffield University Sabres, Coach
Dwyer has played all over the world including a four year spell playing NCAA
football in the USA for Graceland College, Iowa, in Sweden with the
Kristianstad Lions and he started his career with the mighty Leeds Cougars. All
eyes will be on Sheffield on the 1st of February when the huge Varsity game
between Hallam and Uni takes place - Coach Dwyer will be taking on another Rams
offensive line legend, Paul Wake, HC of the Warriors.
Our opinion.... may the best team win.
Congratulations #2
Another Sheffield connection, as Hallam Warriors and Yorkshire Rams Senior team
quarterback Andy Green gets the gong as quarterback of the week for the entire
BUAFL league.
Andy was at the helm for
the Warriors in their 34 – 0 victory over the Liverpool Fury.
Despite Andy's Padowan, Tristan Varney, throwing
seven touchdowns for the Birmingham Lions in their 117 - 0 mauling of Bristol,
Green was still the top dog for the BUAFL stats team with a rating of 118.7
(NCAA) - a great figure in Britball.
www.buafl.net
had the following to say about the Rams play caller:
Quarterback: This week's signal caller stood tall above the rest when
reliability is the word....... Sheffield Hallam's Andy Green gets my call
with a rating of 118.7. Proving that when a sharp shooter is what you need, few
would give him the red light.
Support your local team
I know this newsletter goes out to thousands of you, many outside of our
catchment area and some in the USA, but for those based in the Yorkshire /Humber
region, these are this week’s fixtures in the BUAFL campaign.
Please go and support your nearest team,
there are probably Rams players or coaches on the sideline and I know they will
be thrilled to see familiar faces among the crowd.
Make sure to tell them the Rams recommended
you go watch them play. Please check out
www.buafl.net
for all the travel and location information if you fancy nipping along.
Please make sure the game is still on before you
travel, pitches can get waterlogged or frozen at this time of the year. Finally,
wrap up warm!
Games this weekend in the Yorkshire Rams Catchment Area (check www.buafl.net)
for further info and don't travel until you know the game is definitely on)
