Rams Post Season Newsletter #1
Welcome to
the Rams post season newsletter number 1, brought to you by the Yorkshire
Rams Senior and Leeds Varsity Rams Youth teams and by
Collett Transport, our team sponsor.
We are proud to call the John Charles Centre for Sport our home and we are also
proud to represent both the City of Leeds and the County of Yorkshire in
British American Football.
Looking forward
The Rams
are now firmly into post season and the build up to 2009 is underway. The
biggest news so far is the name change for the Rams Youth team. The 16 to 18
year old squad will now play under the title of the
Leeds Varsity Rams. Head Coach Paul Goodward is hoping that the
2009 team will fare better than in their rookie year and is putting out a call
to all players who will be 16 - 19 years old in 2009 to come and play for the
team, drop an email to ceo@yorkshirerams.com if you fancy it. There will be
more news soon on the Junior team, 14-16 years old, in the coming months.
The Senior
team will be hoping to go one better than last year and make it all the way to
the final, anyone aged 19+ in 2009 is welcome to try out for the team and
further information will be forthcoming, register your interest at
ceo@yorkshirerams.com.
The Rams
organisation will be holding open tryouts for all age ranges, 14-16, 16-19
& 19+ real soon and will let you know via this newsletter as soon as venues
and times are sorted.
Texas Links
After the
highly successful trip by the Rams out to the beautiful town of Celina in the
proud state of Texas, we are hoping that further links can be forged with the
winningest high school football programme in Texas Football history. Progress
of the Celina Bobcats this year has been impressive, given the number of senior
players the team lost this year. Their latest game saw the Bobcats beat
district rivals Gainesville 55-7. More details on the Celina High School
Bobcats can be found at www.celinabobcats.org
Sport England celebrate Rams Success
After a
successful pilot project at Morley High School, South Leeds schools are looking
to expand their non contact American football programme in the coming months.
Sport England recently produced a report on the pilot scheme and this is
available at www.westyorkshiresport.co.uk/files/case_study_af_leeds.pdf
The Sport
England report, put together by SIRC staff at Sheffield Hallam University said,
"
As a result of need identified
through the Year 9 audit, American football sessions were introduced in Leeds.
The sessions began in term 1 with a pilot in Morley High School aimed at young
people aged 13-14 years. The session is currently over-subscribed and numbers
are limited because only one coach is involved - young people have been turned
away because the sessions are full"
The Rams
are currently looking for more coaches and officials to help out in the coming
months. Level one education is provided, as is clearance for the prospective
candidates. As well as on the field roles in playing and coaching, the Rams are
also looking for volunteer staff in many roles including physios,
nutritionists, video staff, statisticians, educational consultants and many
more. We are hoping to have a volunteer staff to support all age ranges within
the organisation and any enquiries should be directed to ceo@yorkshirerams.com
Hackers not welcome
It appears
the Rams have their very own stalker.... our website has become the target of a
very determined individual who is placing a virus on the home page of the
website and as soon as it is removed each time, they attach it again. We are
working very hard with our ISP, but in the meantime can only apologise to you
and will let you know as soon as we have alleviated the problem. Needless to
say we wish the person responsible all the very best for the future and send
our kindest regards.
See you
soon
