Try outs bring new faces to Pirates
On Sunday 14 December, the East Kilbride Pirates held
the second of their two rookie try out days as part of their recruitment drive
for the 2009 season. The two days allowed potential new players the chance to
see the kind of skills that are required to play a sport which is currently
seeing a surge in popularity. Pirate’s coaches were impressed with the players
who attended and look forward to spending more time working with them in the
New Year.
Potential players who missed the sessions need not
worry as the Pirates search for new talent continues into 2009 when they resume
training on 11 January at Brancumhall, East Kilbride. Pirates Chairman Matthew
Davies said: “We’re constantly on the lookout for new guys to be a part of the
team and anyone who is interested should get in touch, come along to meet the
guys and see what it’s all about. We’re always happy to see new faces at
training and those who haven’t played before need not feel intimidated. Our
coaching staff and players are welcoming and we’re as well prepared to teach
the basics to complete beginners as we are to help seasoned veterans sharpen
their skills.”
The Pirates are Scotland’s number one American football
team and are run entirely by volunteers. If you’re interested in playing,
coaching or volunteering your time to help with any aspect of running the team,
