Pirates ready for Rams double header
Scotland
’s
number one American football team are currently preparing for a pair of
top-of-the-table games against the Leeds-based Yorkshire Rams.
The Rams visit Hamilton Rugby Club on Sunday 21
June, looking to wrestle the top spot from the Pirates, who visit the John
Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds in the return leg the following weekend.
The Pirates lead the Northern Conference of BAFL 1,
having won their opening four games. The Rams sit one game off the pace, after
a narrow defeat at the hands of the Gateshead Senators, who the Pirates beat in
their last outing. The two teams have met nine times previously, with the
Pirates taking the spoils on every occasion, but there is no room for complacency.
Pirates Head Coach Andy Mackintosh had the following to say: "
Since our win over Gateshead two weeks ago,
the Rams are now our closest rival in our division. They lost their first game
of the season but every week have improved and scored more each game. This
should be a good test for our defence to see if we can stop former Great
Britain quarterback Pete Rodgers and to see if we can score on a defense which
is only conceding 12 points a game. We really have to stay focused and play
with discipline to get the win and keep our unbeaten run going"
Both teams are in the hunt for playoff spots and
with the season almost half way to completion, neither can afford a slip up.
The action kicks off at 2:30 pm on Sunday 21 June at Hamilton Rugby Club. Entry
is £3 for adults, free for children and there will be a bar, BBQ and the usual
fun and games with Pirates commentator and DJ Gary Carr.
