Pirates announce Open Tryouts
Scotland’s number one American football team, the East
Kilbride Pirates will be holding two open tryout days before Christmas. These
events, designed to give new and existing players a taste of playing the game,
will take place at 12:00 noon on Sunday 23rd November and Sunday 14th December
at Duncanrigg Sports Centre, East Kilbride.
Each session will begin indoors with a one hour introduction to the team and
the sport. Attendees will hear from staff, coaches and players about their time
with the Pirates and the GB Lions and have the opportunity to ask questions.
The remaining two hours of the session will take place outside on Duncanrigg’s
astro turf field where the potential players will be taken through typical
American football drills. These drills will illustrate the kinds of skills that
Pirates players are expected to display. They will also whet the appetite of
new players by giving them a small taste of wearing the kit which American football
is famous for.
Attendees will need to bring footwear suitable for astro turf and sports
clothing suitable for being outdoors in the winter. Players of all ages,
abilities and levels of fitness are encouraged to attend. Any who have their
own pads, helmet and gum shield should also bring those. If you’re interested
