The ambitious South Yorkshire Mustangs are to host a Rookie try out day on Sunday November 23rd at the impressive Keep Moat Stadium in Doncaster.

Football fans will be familiar with the venue as the host of Britbowl XXII, and the Mustangs will continue their relationship with the stadium by playing their home fixture there in 2009, as well as using it as a training base.

The rookie day is an opportunity for anyone who has never played American Football but always wondered how they would get on to give the sport a try.  Experience is not necessary as coaches and experienced players will be on hand to help out.

Speaking of the venture, Secretary Martyn Richmond was keen to express his thanks to all involved at the Keep Moat for their help, "I want to pass on a huge vote of thanks to Shane Chalmers and the staff at the Keep Moat for helping the Mustangs put on the rookie day at their stadium.  Their is a massive potential for American Football in the Doncaster area, which has a proud heritage of producing talented Rugby League and Union players.  We feel that the step to American Football is not that large and are hopeful that we can build a strong squad for the 2009 season, starting on the 23rd November".

The off season has been a busy one for the Mustangs who recently parted company with Head Coach Andy Patel.  General Manager Mark Blyth is however optimistic about the future for the club, "We were obviously sorry to see Andy leave the Mustangs and we'd like to thank him for all the hard work and effort he put in to the club.  We have an exciting future though, and hope to be in a position soon to make an announcement regarding the future coaching set up in Doncaster".

The Rookie day begins at 11:00am with registration, and as well as presentations from club officials, it will include an opportunity to meet the players, get acquainted with the stadium during a brief tour, and try out the sport on the 3G pitch.

If you're interested in trying out for the Mustangs, please come along on the 23rd, or get in touch at secretary@symustangs.org.uk .
