This Sunday at the Keep Moat Athletics stadium in Doncaster the South Yorkshire Mustangs host the Yorkshire Rams in a keenly awaited match up. The Rams currently sit in 2second place in the BAFL 1 North, but the Mustangs are not far behind and are gathering momentum.
The Mustangs have had an up and down season so far, after a heavy defeat to Dundee, bounced back two weeks ago at the 'Moat with a solid victory by 34-6 over the Staffordshire Surge. That game saw the rise of a new backfield for the Mustangs of Paul Tiggardine, and converted tight end, Steve Brown, both of whom rushed for 150+ yards. This two pronged attack, and the arm of young and rapidly improving quarterback Paul McIntosh have given the South Yorkshire outfit a real opportunity of mounting a serious run at the play offs, starting Sunday.
The Mustangs are further strengthened this week with the return of American import Juan Jasso. Juan has been missing so far this season but his return adds depth and experience to the Mustangs defence, lead by Chris Swinbourne and player coach Lee Durman.
It promises to be a great 'derby' game on Sunday, so if you're in the area, come down to the Keep Moat Athletics Stadium in Doncaster. Kick off is at 2.30pm, and entrance costs £2.50 for adults, with students and children being charged £1.00. We offer covered seating, commentary on the game, a raffle, and hopefully, some great football!
