As part of the Doncaster Mustangs American Football Club, the team is pleased to announce the launch of the Balby Carr Mustangs American Football Academy, based at their training facility, Balby Carr Sports College.

The teams’ Management and Coaches have been working closely over the last eighteen months to help establish a Junior Kitted team at the Doncaster school. That work came to a fruition when the Junior Mustangs played their first ever competitive game, just coming up short in a 24-22 loss to Coventry on BritBowl Saturday.
This coming Saturday they take on BritBowl finalists, Chorley Buccaneers, in another friendly encounter. There will be two games on the day at the Sports College with the first starting at 11.00am.
“We’ve had a great time working with the kids and their Head Coach, Steve Whitter”, commented Mustangs General Manager, Mark Blyth. “The players have come along way since they first started and all their hard work showed in the narrow defeat to Coventry”.
But now as of September 2010 Balby Carr Sports College, Doncaster will be offering American Football as part of their Academy set-up.
As part of their affiliation with the Doncaster Mustangs team, Balby Carr has developed the Junior (14-16 yr old) team to represent Doncaster in the BAFL. This will see the Balby Carr Mustangs enter the BAFL Junior Kitted League as of the 2010 season.
It is also a scheme that has been introduced to several other schools in the Doncaster area, many of which have expressed an interest in taking up the sport.
“We’d love to see an Doncaster Inter-Schools competition sometime in the future”, added Blyth.
It is only natural to aim for progression, so Balby Carr Sports College are delighted to announce the development of the American Football Academy, available from September 2010. This is open to any Year 11 pupil looking for an opportunity for the next academic year.
As part of the American Football Academy, all members will not only receive 8 hours of kitted training per week, but will also be registered on the BTEC Sports courses; offering between 1 and 3 A-Levels depending on the previous qualifications achieved at GCSE. Members will also be able to undertake coaching qualifications as part of their entitlement of the course. Also, as the development of the team takes shape, the Youth team (16-18 yr old) will also be entered into the BAFL.
“We have some good, young, Level 1 Coaches at the Mustangs and we see this as an excellent opportunity for them to add to their CV’s”, he also added.
