Kent Exiles 6 Southern Sundevils 13
The Kent Exiles tasted defeat for the second time in 2008
on Sunday, and in doing so also los
t their lead in the divisional table.
In a game where the Exiles never seemed to get started,
the Southampton based Sundevils took advantage thanks to a great defensive
effort, which stifled the mistake plagued Exiles offense.
The Exiles got on the board first, a good drive in the
first quarter was expertly finished by Rob Stewart with a 22 yard tackle
breaking run, it was the one bright spot of the Exiles offense for the day, and
Stewart went on to record his third straight 100 yard rushing game, finishing
with 112 yards on 20 carries.
Southern struck back in the second quarter, a sustained
drive down the pitch saw them take the lead when they converted their point
after following a 6 yard touchdown run, and it was 7-6 at halftime.
Both teams cancelled each other out effectively in the
second half; the Exiles defense gave no quarter, and led by rookie linebacker
Joe Alexis’ 15 tackles kept the Sundevils offense at bay. But then a huge
play saw some poor tackling allow the Sundevils to return an Exiles punt 46
yards for a touchdown to break the run of defensive stands, and give them the
final score of 13-6.

Following the game Exiles Head Coach Norman Navarro
commented, “We struggled on offense today, we just could not find a spark and
mistakes killed us in the end. The defense was again in great form, but we need
to start moving the ball more fluently, and making the most of our
opportunities”.
The Exiles now have to bounce back immediately as the
Sundevils visit Crockenhill on Sunday week. Full details of the Exiles season
