Coach Stephen Ramos joins Exiles

The Kent Exiles are pleased to announce today that Coach Stephen Ramos has joined the Kent Exiles coaching staff.  Coach Ramos brings a wealth of experience to the club, having previously held both offensive co-ordinator and Head Coaching positions at Californian high schools, and joins the Exiles to tutor their Quarterbacks, and assist Coach Malcolm Phillips with the Exiles offence.

On announcing the appointment Head Coach Scott Rowe commented, “We’re very fortunate to welcome Coach Ramos to the Exiles, in the last few weeks his experience, enthusiasm and knowledge have helped our Quarterbacks mechanics and understanding of the game. I welcome Coach to the team, and I’m looking forward to the 2009 campaign with his input, there is now no better place in the south for developing quarterbacks to learn the game!”

After moving to England four years ago Coach Ramos was determined to keep in touch with the game he loved, so sought out the Exiles and came to watch a few games over the past few seasons. Impressed with the commitment of the team, as well as the athleticism and desire they showed he decided to commit his time to coaching as soon as his work allowed.

“I’m here because I want to bring my experiences to the team, and help them improve” commented Coach Ramos. “I must admit the standard of British football is higher than I expected, and in the Exiles I have seen an evolution over the last two years, and I want to help bring the success the club deserves”.

Coach Ramos made the move into coaching following his playing career at South Pasadena High School, where a 1-9 record in his senior year showed what bad coaching could achieve! After learning his trade Coach Ramos returned to South Pasadena and led the team to a league championship in his first season. Two years later he made the move to Big Bear Lake high School in California, where in four seasons his team averaged over 50 points per game, and four league championships were won, as well as the schools only CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) Championship, a 13-10 thriller vs. Bishop High School.

"As a club we're delighted" commented Exiles Chairman Dave Pester, "Coach Ramos brings great experience to the club, and completes our coaching line-up. We are now in the envious position of having an experienced coach for all playing positions, as well as our co-ordinators. I’d like to welcome Coach Ramos to the Exiles Family, along with his wife Amanda and children Mollie and Charlie, who I’m sure, will enjoy our game day experience”.

With just eight weeks to go before the season starts, the Exiles coaching staff are now busy putting the finishing touches to their preparations and team. Coach Rowe is still happy to hear from any players interested in joining the team, and can be contacted via the club website www.kentexiles.co.uk or by e-mailing contactus@kentexiles.co.uk
