Clyde Valley Hawks 14 ~ 26 Gateshead Senators

Clyde Valley started the 2008 season with a loss to Gateshead Senators on Sunday. Senators took the first possession of the ball and marched steadily up field behind some powerful running by Gavin Barr and Ian Dover, Barr rounded off the drive with a 25 yard streak up the sidelines for the opening touchdown. A swarming Hawks defense prevented the extra points being scored. Although Clyde Valley mounted a drive of their own it stalled in their own half. Gateshead capitalised on this when Ian Dover burst through the middle and sprinted 20 yards to the end zone to add to their tally. The extra point was no good. In the second quarter Senators scored again on a catch and run by Adam O’Brien from a long way out. This time Ian Dover carried the ball over to bring the score to 20 – 0.

Hawks next possession started deep in their own half but quarterback Will Winter linked with brother Mark Winter on a pass from the Hawks 35 yard line. Mark then raced up the sidelines for Hawks first touchdown. The score was increased by another 2 points when Graeme Duncan rumbled over. Although the honours were shared in the second half, first with Gateshead scoring on a 3 yard dive by Adam O’Brien and the Hawks finishing the scoring for the day when Mark Winter scooped in a 4 yard pass for his second touchdown, the Senators had opened their season campaign with a win.  Hawks next game is at home against Glasgow Tigers on 11th May.
