Clyde Valley Hawks were looking for their first win of the
season against the Bolton Bulldogs. However it was the away side that gave the
crowd something to cheer about when Josh Baines intercepted a pass. A
scampering 45 yard run from Adam Grundy looked like it had opened the scoring
but it was called back for a penalty. After trading possessions Bolton
were once more close to scoring following some powerful running from, Adam
Grundy, Sam Russell and Jamie Allan, with the ball on the Hawks 9 yard line
their defense suddenly came to life. Hawk’s Graeme Duncan and Jamie Weir
combined to sack the quarterback to give passion to the home side but the clock
ran out on the half.
The solid defense kept up the pressure at the start of the
second half forcing Bolton to punt the ball. Two pass later; a 28 yard grab and
run from quarterback Will Winter to Chris McCrum then a 2 yard pass to Ryan
Rogers opened the scoring for the Hawks. The extra point was unsuccessful.
Clyde Valley added to the scoring when Winter hooking up once more with Chris
McCrum for a 26 yard score. This time the extra point pass was intercepted by
Bolton’s Josh Baines. Hawks defense held the Bulldogs at bay forcing them to
punt the ball away. Hawks decided to ground out some hard yards with Steven
Hughes driving up the middle then Chris McCrum and Darran Sharp brought the
Hawks to the 6 yard line. Will Winter finished the drive with a 2 yard sneak
fro the touchdown. A swarming Bolton side blocked the extra point kick. Mark
Winter performed some acrobatics on Hawks next possession grabbing a 28 yard
pass on the home sideline. This led to the final touchdown and the second for
Ryan Rogers when he scooped up a fumbled ball and dashed 4 yards to the
endzone. Time then became the enemy for Bolton who fought to the final whistle.
Hawks would like to thank everyone who helped out at today’s game. Their next
game is away to Sheffield Tomahawks on 29th June.
