Fresh from their road victory at Chiltern Cheetahs, representatives from the Cats headed down to their local BBC Radio station to partake in a sporting trivia quiz against a panel of sports journalists. Cats Head Coach Rick Bice was joined by leading wide receiver safety Kinder Mann, as well as defensive back and Media & Marketing representative Matt Casey, who took part in a light-hearted interview as well as the quiz during the hour long “Monday Sports Show” that aired 1800-1900 Monday 4th June 2007.

Presenter Alex Harris oversaw proceedings as the Cats took on a team comprised of BBC Radio stats man Steve Fakes, US Sports Journalist Dan Strayer and veteran sideline reporter Andy Abbott. The show afforded The Cats ample opportunity to promote the team, the league and the sport in general, with a very co-operative Harris keen to allow plugs and spread the word of Britball.

The pundits team went out to an early lead, helped largely by the US Sporting knowledge of Strayer, a keen American football fan who has himself helped promote the Cats on the radio in pre-season. A strong second round saw Coach Bice rack up points in a debate-style forum, as he successfully argued against the controversial claim that American Footballers are “wimps as they wear lots of padding”.

A strong virtuoso display by Strayer in the quick fire final round saw the pundits stretch to a 11 point lead, however The Cats team managed to navigate through the minefield of random sporting trivia and with just seconds to go were a correct answer away from victory.  In perhaps a significant change of fortune from the Cats, having lost several games over the past 2 years with late scores against them, Coach Bice showed his sporting acumen with impressive knowledge of the geography of a darts board. The victory affords the Cats team another trip to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire as the quiz moves onto the second round, and the victory was a personally satisfying one for Matt Casey, having studied Sports at A-Level with pundit Steve Fakes: “Whilst the exact timing of the final round may be open to debate, I am delighted to get one over on Fakesy, having faced him in many soccer games over the years. The guys at Radio Cambridgeshire are top lads and we’re looking forward to another hour of great banter whilst promoting The Cats and BAFL in the near future”.
