The road to Britbowl XX kicked off in spectacular fashion on Sunday, when the Cambridgeshire Cats American football team travelled to Norwich to open the 2006 season.
In a hard-fought game, the Norwich Devils triumphed 29-14, thanks mainly to three costly turnovers from the Cats’ offense. “There were a few things that we need to look at and fix for next week,” said head coach Rick Bice, “but on the whole we’re pleased with the way the Cats performed out there.” Standout players were Dominic Fox, whose elusive running helped the team to gain more than 400 yards offensively, and defensive end Rob McGee who set a new team record with three defensive sacks, including a safety.
The Cats will be hosting the Devils on the 8th of April at Coldham Common, Cambridge, in what promises to be an exciting grudge match. Kick-off will be at 2.30pm, and the Cats welcome all of their supporters to come and cheer the team on.
