The next chapter in the Cats-Saxons saga will be written on June 25 when Cambridge host their cross-county foes from Peterborough. While perhaps not as storied as the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry in baseball, the strong links that many BAFL players have with both clubs means that Sunday’s game will be about bragging rights as well as league standings.

“We have tremendous respect for the East Midlands Saxons,” says the Cats’ general manager Paul Wheal. “These sorts of games don’t come around very often, and fans in Cambridgeshire are fortunate to have two up-and-coming teams playing on their doorstep. Anyone who’s interested should come down and enjoy the game—it promises to be a great one!”

The Cats got off to a slow start in 2006, with close losses against Norwich and Colchester. After last weekend’s victory over the Maidstone Pumas, though, it’s obvious that they’re picking up momentum as the journey to the Britbowl hits the midway point. A stifling defense and a two-headed running game fronted by Dominic Fox and Steven Morrison promises to give the Saxons more than enough to worry about. The visitors, for their part, are 2-1 so far; Cambridgeshire will have to make sure they maintain their focus for the full sixty minutes if they want to secure their second win.

Kick off is at 2.30pm on Coldhams Common, and the Cats would like to see as many fans as possible. If you are interested in playing for this exciting team, the team is still looking for new players. Please visit www.cambridgeshirecats.com for further information.
