With just 4 ticks left in the game the Jets rookie kicker Fraser Houston kicked a 40 yard field goal to win BritBowl XXII for the Jets in a game of two halves!
Trailing 14-25 at the half things could have been much different for the Jets who were looking to avenge last years 13-6 defeat at the hands of the Blitz. The Blitz took an early lead on the first of Gareth Dauley's 3 touchdown runs on his way to 207 rushing yards on 22 carries.
The Blitz soon extended their lead to 13 points when Rod Bradley (aka Spartan) snared an 11 yard pass from Stuart Franklin.
In the second quarter the rusty looking Jets sprung into action when Tony Perkins returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown to move the Jets to within 6 points. The Jets then burst into action and forced the Blitz to punt. On the ensuing drive the Jets drove down to the Blitz 5 yard line before quarterback Dax Michelana was picked off by Mark Penfound who proceeded to rumble for 61 yards all the way down to the Jets 34 yard line. Eight plays later the Blitz extended their lead to 12 points on a 2 yard run by Jonathan Chilton.
Forcing the Blitz to punt again the Blitz moved out to a 25-7 lead on a Gareth Dauley 70 yard scamper. Leaving Michelana with just 1 minute 34 seconds left in the half he managed to take the Jets 57 yards in just 54 seconds capping the drive with a 10 yard strike to Mark Cohen leaving the Jets trailing 25-14 at the half.
The Jets moved to within 4 points on the opening drive of the second half when Jeremy Simms caught a spectacular catch in the corner of the end zone to end a 10 play 64 yard drive.
Gareth Dauley then increased the Blitz lead on a 25 yard run but then he had to watch from the sideline as Dax dove in from 1 yard to move the Jets back to within just 5 points and that is how the 3rd quarter ended with the Blitz leading 32-27.
In a tense but exciting 4th quarter the Jets moved to within 2 points when Fraser Houston nailed a 43 yard field goal. Both teams then failed to score on 2 possessions each before the Blitz had an opportunity to extend the lead further only to watch Nathan Holt push a 23 yard field goal attempt wide left with just 2 minutes 49 seconds left in the game.
The Jets under the direction of game MVP Dax Michelana who drove the Jets down the field to set up the game winning kick by Houston. The Blitz had just one play but ran out of time as the Jets completed a magnificant comeback to secure the BritBowl XXII Championship and lift the Boston trophy for the first time.
