The Plymouth Admirals, Devon’s only senior American
Football team, is looking to recruit new players and volunteers to assist the
existing team as the 2008 season gathers steam.
The Plymouth Admirals have been representing Devon on the
UK stage since 1986 and in that time have enjoyed considerable success; their
greatest honour was in ’91 when they won the UK Premier Bowl.
The Admirals now play in Division 2 of the
British American Football League and play their home games, on Sundays, at the
Parkway Social Club in Plymouth.
After
a slow but determined start to the 2008 season with a loss to the Hampshire
Thrashers, the Admirals are keen to build on the established team and staff and
that’s where you come in!
Head Coach Steve Perry said, “American Football is fast paced, hard hitting and with squads of up to 45 has to be the ultimate team sport! After some successful training camps at the start of 2008 there are many new players in the team who now find themselves in the starting line ups. Many of these players were recruited from local Rugby teams who are now heading into the off season which neatly coincides with the Admirals summer playing programme!
New players are always welcome to come along and join in
the training sessions whatever your shape, size, experience or ability!
There is also no cost for your first session and there is no need to book; just
turn up ready to have some fun!
The
coaching team can also come to you so if your school, college or rugby team would
like to sample American football give the Admirals a call.

However, if the thought of running around on a Sunday
afternoon doesn’t grab you but you still like the game and want to get involved
then the friendly, enthusiastic and busy Admirals staff would like to hear from
you.
Team Secretary Paula Dodds explains, “There are plenty of
ways to get involved be it cheerleading, assisting the umpires, team/kit
management, physiotherapist or statistician to name just a few.!
The Admirals management are also looking to extend their
sponsorship base so if you or your business would like to support Devon’s
premier American football team or you fancy volunteering to assist the Admirals

The Admirals look forward to seeing you at their home
games played at Parkway Social Club in Plymouth where you can enjoy a drink on
a sunny (no promises!) Sunday afternoon this summer while supporting your
County Team.
