After welcoming over 70 brand new players of all ages in the last 3 weeks, the Plymouth Admirals will be looking to round off an excellent month’s work with a high profile Thanksgiving Party in the city centre’s Varsity bar.
The event, part of the Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Thanksgiving in Plymouth’ weekend, will boast live NFL action, American themed food, deals on popular US drinks, as well as guest appearances by Hooters girls and a Blues Brothers tribute act.

“It’s been a great period for the club at all levels” said General Manager Sam Holder-Mark. “If we can follow up the interest we’ve seen and turn it into new members then the Admirals are looking very positive for the future.

Thanksgiving will be a great night, but straight after that we will be focussing again on our upcoming events this year and next. We’ve got some momentum – we need to keep it going.”

New youth players have added to a great month.
The recent influx began during October half term holiday, where 26 city youngsters aged 8-14 took part in a council-organised day of non-contact ‘flag football’.  Just 15 days later the Youth setup was further boosted by 14 new players attending their November camp and partaking in 14-18 contact football.

“Superb” said Youth Coach Gareth Hawcroft afterwards. “Our numbers are growing and the new guys are coming with exactly the enthusiasm and dedication we like to see. Their potential is immense.”

In-between these dates the Admirals senior side had a bumper turnout at their Rookie Camp at Parkway Sports Club.

“Last year’s camp was a cracker, and I was hoping we could match that again this time” explained Head Coach Steve Perry. “But people just kept coming until we had 32 new players taking part! Of the 32 I believe only a handful had played before, so we seem to be attracting complete beginners into the sport too. This is happening to most teams across the country at the moment as the popularity of the sport begins to surge again.”

“These guys had skills,” added Club Captain Mel German. “There was a lot of natural ability on show and I’d like to see each and every one at our next event as they can all be an asset to the team. We must also thank The Mermaid Inn, Eggbuckland for their kind sponsorship of this event. To offer these camps at no cost is vitally important and was only possible with their support. We’ve already had preliminary talks about working with them again in the future, and it’s clear they value what we’re trying to achieve.”

The Admirals committee are now looking to hold an additional senior camp in early December, details to follow soon. The next Youth camp is already all set for December 8th.
